Oda Nobunaga

What's this all about?

June 1, 2003

Oda Nobunaga is one of the most well known historical figures in Japan. And yet there is relatively little about him that is known in the West outside of the fairly narrow niche of Japanese history buffs and academes.

I think he deserves better.

Plus, I've always been fascinated by his story.

So, this site is basically a tribute to Nobunaga. It's an attempt to introduce him to those people who might have nothing more than a passing interest in Japan, and Japanese history.

Importantly this site is simply a hobby of mine. It is not meant to be an authoritative source of information about Nobunaga - such things can be found elsewhere. This site will not become a source of argument or dispute. I will strive to be accurate and correct; so if I am wrong in matters of fact I will appreciate correction. But because I am not trying to sell anything, nor to prove anything, I will not let this site become a bone of contention.

The tone of the site will be fairly light, but not flippant or frivolous. The subjects discussed here are often those of life and death, murder, pillage, upheaval, betrayal, and so on. So it wouldn't be appropriate for me - or the site - to be flippant. On the other hand, again I'm not presenting a thesis paper here. So things will be a bit informal.

I look forward to hearing from anyone who visits the site, either via email or at the guestbook. Any kind of reaction to the information you find here, or don't find here, will be great.

More to come later.
